Index – stock correlation and trading……….?

Question by RoastGoose: Index – stock correlation and trading……….?
*** This is in the context that you’re someone that believes that TA has a semblance of effectiveness

Say you’ve found a stock to buy.
It’s a mid-cap stock that’s on a 3-month uptrend, trading near support.
Looks good.

The index however looks overbought and likely to go down for a few days.

Would you buy in?

Is there some measure to see how correlated a stock’s price is with the index?

thanks
