Understanding high school options for children in USA?

Question by T L: Understanding high school options for children in USA?
Where to start – it seems the most common high school routine is for children to just go to the local public high school in their district and graduate – just to your standard, all around high school, etc.

But then, I read about kids involved in all kinds of things: trade school for high school, arts and music high school, acting and performing arts high school, even one kid who was involved in an international baccaleurate program in high school.

So, my question is two-fold

Should high school education be mandatory?

Question by Miranda: Should high school education be mandatory?
I propose that it is unnecessary at best, and a complete waste of time at worst. For one thing, most of what is learned in high school is forgotten in adulthood, due to sheer lack of use. For another, the large amounts of time spent in high school could be spent learning a practical trade or doing an apprenticeship. For those with keen interests, high school could remain an OPTION, much as university is now, and the environment would probably be more conducive to learning when it is not . . . → Read More: Should high school education be mandatory?

How would one who needs to disappear, survive, work, without being traced?

Question by cin w: How would one who needs to disappear, survive, work, without being traced?
You couldn’t use your social security # which is virtually required for everything. What type of living could you make without showing ID or S.S.#. To get a car or drivers license, ID & SS# is required. Any records you have of prior education, etc. would be useless or unable to use. If you leave the country, what country could you stay for unlimited time with no ID and one you could make a decent wage? . . . → Read More: How would one who needs to disappear, survive, work, without being traced?

Question by Bunky: What Military Branch Should My Boyfriend Join?
He is seriously considering joining the army national guard but I don’t “think” he will get anything out of the branch that will benefit him once he becomes a civilian.I could be wrong but wouldn’t the navy, army or the air force offer him better opportunities for advancement just in case he does decide to retire in the military? Also he’s 29 y/o and will be going in as enlisted so what do you think will be the best option for him in terms of advancement, education, learning . . . → Read More: What Military Branch Should My Boyfriend Join?

What do you think of my education reform proposal?

Question by great: What do you think of my education reform proposal?
Washington loves to talk about our broken education system, they pass bills like ‘no child left behind’.They pass the bills, sign them into law and what happens a few weeks later? We find these very bills extremely underfunded and ironically “left behind” by our very own “representatives”. The truth about our education system is that it is simply broken, unfair, and unjust. As a wealthy super power, shouldn’t we also have an education system that enhances us,prepares our future generation for workforce competition and enables them and our country as a . . . → Read More: What do you think of my education reform proposal?

My son has been diagnosed ppd.He is 7.What are his possible future options? College seems unlikely.?

Question by Windsor Mill: My son has been diagnosed ppd.He is 7.What are his possible future options? College seems unlikely.?
Does anyone have experience in such matters? He struggles in a regular education setting and special ed is too slow so we adopted a dual approach in his education plan. My husband and I worry about his future. We hope to one day own our own business so he could work for us but who knows when and if that will happen. Is going to trade school his only option? Would there be other educational avenues to pursue? . . . → Read More: My son has been diagnosed ppd.He is 7.What are his possible future options? College seems unlikely.?
