I just have a curious question as to whether hedge funds prefer to use CFD’s (contracts for differences) to trade/invest into the stock market over spread betting, and if so, why? Also, do hedge funds ever use spread betting at all in their stock trades and if not, why?

My online broker :Scottrade” told me that i have to own the shares in order to do a “credit spread”. I was looking to start trading the SPY and do a credit spread but if i have to own the stock (around$ 90) i need a lot of money to start. Is my broker telling the truth?

Why O’ Why? I have a friend in the U.K. who raves about his Cap Spreads account and how superior it is to FX – lots/minilots etc.

He makes a decent living from his trading activities.
